Star Wars, The Matrix, and Harry Potter—countless stories feature mind-blowing displays of supernatural power. Neo dodges bullets, takes off, and flies. Obi-Wan uses the Force to convince guards he’s allowed to pass a checkpoint. He passes on his secrets and teaches Luke to “Trust the Force.” Luke does. Then he displays amazing powers. Harry Potter waves his wand and harnesses an unseen power to perform amazing magic.
And this is all portrayed as mere superstition, myths, or fairy tales. Yet there is an appeal to it. Somewhere in our soul’s deepest longing, we would love to have those powers. The purpose of this book is to show you that this is how God made you. He made you to live in the realm of the supernatural.
And what does nearly all of today’s Christianity tell us? “None of that for you, boy!” They say that any power we read about in the Bible was for then, not now. They tell us that we have doctors and psychiatrists, so there is no longer a need for healing or casting out devils (and many claim these devils were superstitions or mental disorders). We are left as mere observers, passively watching movies or reading stories about other mortals performing jaw-dropping exploits. And we can only dream of them.
But what if our modern Christianity got it wrong?
